Sacramento Bee All-Decade Team: High school football
OFFENSE
Selections based on high school performances only
As a junior, Graves shattered regional records with 66 total touchdowns as a dual threat, obliterating marks by all-time area greats.
James Montgomery Running back Cordova 2005
This major recruit was next in a long line of Lancer legends; set school rushing records for a storied program as a breakaway threat.
Two-year varsity totals are among the greatest in Northern California history: 4,734 yards, 81 touchdowns; ran hard, ran fast, ran determined.
Bee Player of Year in 2004 helped Trojans win three consecutive D-II section titles with great speed, including on defense and special teams.
The one "name" player on an otherwise no-name, unsung, gritty offense that keyed a 14-0 section title team; set receiving marks at UC Davis.
The Bee's Defensive Player of the Year as a senior was equally as impressive as a tight end as an all-time Marauders performer.
A player for any era with great hands, feet, strength – and was a leader who also had personality; went on to play at Stanford.
Was a major recruit as a D-lineman, too; landed at Stanford, where he's played on both sides of the ball; could be NFL first-round pick.
A product of the Dave Hoskins-coached pipeline of guard and tackle excellence, Wiggins has enjoyed a stellar career at Fresno State.
The Miners have produced many mighty mite guards and tackles, but Dever was a mighty big recruit for Notre Dame, where he still competes.
As large as he was proud, as powerful as he was humble and friendly, Cunningham is still an impact player – now at Fresno State.
A monster two-way talent who helped key a 13-0 team in 2006; has had a very productive career at USC on the defensive line.
Nick Huppe Kicker Del Oro 2005
Great range, superb on touchbacks and could kick in a pinch, including making winning field goal to beat Rocklin in a D-II title game.
Three-year starter set state quarterback rushing records as a senior but wowed most foes with his instincts and hitting ability as a linebacker.
Could stretch teams as a wide receiver, flyback or on returns. He went on to excel at Oregon State; now with Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
DEFENSE
Player / Position / School / Most recent year played
Sean Nill Defensive lineman Laguna Creek 2008
Three-year starter was a load on both sides of the ball for his dad/coach Mark, and school's best team; as classy as he was dominant.
Already deemed nation's top defensive lineman recruit now as a junior; was unblockable for teams that went 14-0 and 12-1; all smiles off field.
Andrew Jackson Defensive lineman Nevada Union 2005
The Bee's Defensive Player of the Year keyed dominating march to section D-I title; has been just as good at Fresno State as OL.
The area's No. 1 recruit that season keyed breakout season for new Eagles; continues to shine at USC despite injury-filled career.
Bill Sherman Defensive lineman Del Oro 2005
Dominated lines for years, including 2005 for unbeaten, state-ranked Golden Eagles team that might be the best in school history.
Stud as tight end who especially hammered foes as a linebacker; four-year LB starter at UCLA has had nice season back at TE for Packers.
Ryan Coulson Linebacker Elk Grove 2005
All-Metro selection is an all-time Thundering Herd defensive great with 297 tackles in two varsity seasons. Now a Nevada defensive end.
Two-time All-Metro performer was the Pacers' defensive leader for a 13-0 team of 2006 that some consider the area's best ever.
Terrorized offenses his senior season and parlayed that into a stellar Pacific-10 Conference career at Washington as a defensive lineman.
Set school tackling records and was just as brutish and effective on offense; major recruit landed at Oregon State.
All-Metro pick used his terrific speed and cover skills to shut down foes; also a superb running back; has excelled in secondary for Cal.
Playmaker on offense with 20 touchdowns was even more difficult to deal with as a major defensive recruit; has played well at Nevada.
Keyed Warriors' last great team to date; introduced himself to refs as a leader, then dominated at running back; State DB of Year winner.
Matt Logue Defensive back Bear River 2001
Could play anywhere defensively for his dad/coach Terry, and clobbered foes accordingly; enjoyed great LB career at Sacramento State.
One of the Pacers' all-time greats is also one of the program's all-time classy leaders; could block, catch, tackle; Bee Player of Year in 2000.
